◆Yan Xijun, Ph.D., born in 1953, is a pharmacist-in-charge and recipient for special expert allowance by The State Council. Mr. Yan, founder of Tasly, is now the President of Tianjin Tasly Group Co. Ltd. and Chairman of the Board of Tasly Pharmaceutics Share-holding Co. Ltd. He led his enterprise in grasping the historical opportunity for taking on the national task of the strategic initiative for the modernization of Chinese medicine. He was in charge of the successful research and manufacturing of the modern Chinese herbal medicine Compound Salviae Miltiorrhizae Dripping (Fufang Danshen Diwan). The above project was listed in the most important projects for Chinese Medicine Pharmacology Scientific and Technological Action Plan by The Ministry of Science and Technology; the Important Scientific and Technological Achievement Popularization Project in the Ninth National Five-year Plan; 973 Fundamental Scientific Research Project; High Tech Industrialization Benchmark Project of The National Planning Commission; and Major Special Project Plan for Chinese Medicine Pharmacology Modernization. The Management Targeting the Promotion of Chinese Medicine Pharmacology Modernization initiated by him was awarded the first price for the Eighth National Enterprise Management Modernization New Achievements. Tasly Group is one of the largest pillar enterprises in Tianjin.

 

◆  Yan Xijun leads Tasly Group in pursuing the philosophical tenet of "seeking the harmony between man and nature, and improving life quality". They devoted themselves to carrying forward traditional Chinese medicine culture. With painstaking efforts, they envisioned and created the historic relief Chinese Medicine Drawing, the first large sculpture in China reflecting the history of Chinese medicine. It erected a historical monument for Chinese medicine known for its profound theory and long history.

PREFACE
◆ The completion of the giant granite relief Chinese Medicine Drawing, highlighting Chinese medicine culture, was an important event in Chinese medicine circle. One year ago, Wu Jieping, Vice-chairman of National People's Congress Standing Committee, undraped the relief Chinese Medicine Drawing, which brought China (Tianjin) First Chinese Medicine Culture Festival organized and sponsored by Tasly. The Festival aroused a great response all over China with its well-defined theme of "succession, development and sharing". One year later, memories of the grand occasion are still fresh among us. In order to further spread the culture of Chinese medicine and pharmacology, Tasly Group made another creation of Chinese Medicine Drawing Scroll devoted to people and published in silk paint. Its aesthetics and documentary values are good enough to be the Qingming Shanghetu Scroll in Chinese medicine.
◆ General Secretary Jiang Zemin pointed out, "Chinese medicine and pharmacology are a special feature of our country's medical science, and also am important part of our country's excellent culture. They not only contributed greatly to the development of Chinese civilization, also generated an active influence on the progress of world civilization. Characterized by its "holistic concept", "treatment based on syndrome differentiation", "integrity of mind and physical body", and "human body as an organic entity", the scientific system of Chinese medicine and pharmacology exhibits unprecedented vigor along with the current global trend to return to nature. It is the common responsibility of the whole nation to carry forward the national culture and vigorously develop Chinese medicine and pharmacology. In decades past, in order to push forward Chinese medicine and pharmacology modernization, medical professionals made numerous probes and accumulated invaluable experience and quickened up the development of Chinese medicine and pharmacology.
◆ Chinese medicine and pharmacology modernization, referring to merging the advantage and unique features of Chinese medicine with modern science and technology, is an inevitable trend for its very development. Together with his colleagues, Yan Xijun took the initiative in the trend to create tenet of "seeking harmony between man and nature, improving life quality" and the enterprise culture system in the core value of "modern Chinese medicine shared by all". They ingested the essence from the source of traditional Chinese medicine culture in their active endeavor of research and practice for Chinese medicine modernization. Great efforts have been made to establish domestic GAP-standard herbal plantations. Good Extracting Practice (GEP) was initiated and earnestly implemented. Tasly High Tech Industry Park, founded strictly in line with GMP criteria, was listed as the industry benchmark project in the national high tech industry. Chinese medicine pharmacological modernization is a system engineering requiring the mobilization and integration of all forces of industrial, academic and research to bridge Chinese medicine to the world in common efforts to explore the development of industrialization, modernization and internationalization of Chinese medicine. Promote the process of Chinese medicine pharmacological modernization while carrying forward the elite of national culture and maintaining sustained innovations.
◆ It is a long way and an arduous task for carrying forward and developing Chinese medicine culture, but the future for Chinese medicine modernization is bright.
